THE WINES

SINGLE VINEYARD

The vineyards for GAIL are chosen based on varietal, farming practices, and location within Sonoma Valley. My approach is simple, but what it yields is complex. Fermentations occur spontaneously when the environment allows—whites in barrel or concrete egg, reds in small, open-top stainless-steel fermenters. Everything is aged sur-lie in neutral oak, with minimal movement, favoring larger barrels whenever possible. The wines are bottled unfiltered and individually numbered to emphasize their scarcity. The labels reflect this philosophy—unpretentious and intentional—each one designed with a watercolor inspired by an historic New England paint palette.

TABLE WINES

DORIS is a celebration of wine’s place at the table— it’s a mindset. It’s a nod to the garage wines I grew up around, generous and made to be shared. DORIS allows me to identify the best lots for the single-vineyard program while also giving me room to experiment with new varietals and blends. My approach to drinking wine has always been producer first—building trust with the people behind the bottle. These wines are not a compromise but a deliberate choice. If you’re new to GAIL wines, this is where you start.

SONOMA VALLEY

Sonoma Valley is a wine-growing region that often hides in plain sight. It’s home to some of the oldest vineyards in the country—not only the birthplace of the California wine industry but of California itself. The Sonoma and Mayacamas Mountain ranges feed into the Sonoma Creek corridor, winding through the historic towns of Kenwood, Glen Ellen, and Sonoma. Within its borders lie even smaller AVAs—Carneros, Bennett Valley, Moon Mountain District, and Sonoma Mountain—each contributing to the valley’s remarkable diversity. This is a region where Burgundy, Bordeaux, Loire, Rhône, and Italian varietals all thrive.
